Mattress cleaning at home: price per side, drying 4 to 8 hours

A mattress takes a third of every day. Over a year it absorbs sweat, skin oils and dead skin, and with them the dust mites for which that is the main habitat. For an allergic person it is the mattress, rather than the rug or the curtains, that most often explains a blocked nose in the morning.

The unit here is not size or area but the number of sides treated: turning a mattress over takes longer than going over the top, and that is the only thing affecting the price. The minimum dry-cleaning order is UAH 2,600, so a mattress is usually booked with the headboard and the bedroom rug.

What else gets cleaned

The headboard often turns out dirtier than the mattress: hair and head touch it every night, and light fabric darkens in a band exactly at pillow height. If the bed has an upholstered base, it is a separate item — the same extraction, applied to the sides and the front panel.

How the work is done

We work in your bedroom, the bed is not dismantled and the mattress is never carried out. The fabric is vacuumed, treated with a professional solution and extracted with a Kärcher machine that pulls the dissolved dirt out with the water. One side takes about forty minutes.

Drying takes four to eight hours, so the visit is best booked for the morning with a window open. Sleeping on it the same night is fine once the room has been aired.

Stains and smells

Fresh sweat, food and drink marks come out completely. Long-standing yellow patches get lighter but rarely disappear: the colour has had time to bond with the fibre. Urine is treated with an enzyme product that breaks down the source of the smell, and the fresher the mark, the fuller the result.

There is one case where cleaning will not help, and we say it plainly: if mould has started inside the mattress — visible as dark patches on both sides — it must be replaced, not cleaned.

Children's mattresses and memory foam

A child's mattress is cleaned with the same product without a sharp smell, and the room can be used in the evening. Memory foam needs less water: the material holds moisture longer than a spring block, so the cleaner works more carefully and drying comes closer to eight hours.

How often

Once a year or so for an adult mattress, and every six months if someone in the household has allergies or a child sleeps on it. It is worth cleaning the bedroom rug at the same time: dust mites live in both, and doing only one gives half the benefit.
